Down and Out in London and Paris - George Orwell

I remember being obsessed with this book when I first read it, preparing to travel to both London and Paris in my early 20's. Something about the term 'down and out' spoke to my inner runaway. I thought at the time, I will stay forever in one of these cities, take a job in a hotel kitchen, and live like Orwell. This idea didn't sit well with my mother, or myself for that matter.
