If I could stay home and read this book over and over I would - Brookner's ode to contemplation, longing, and great hotel lobbies is an entire mood, one that draws us in like soft lighting and velvet furniture. It won many prizes naturally, and this one has a sticker from 1984 so we know its vintage.
