It's just so good that I can't even begin to explain how Labatut does it, how could I? Incredibly researched, weaving history and stories, with some science and a dash of natural history. He talks about stuff using big words, it's just stunning, really. It was on a lot of smart people's hit list when it came out (looking at you Björk!), and I do see a National Book Award sticker on the cover, hello! And if you really want a thrill, google Labatut. He looks like a young(er) Chilean Robert Smith, swoon! Just sayin. Gently read copy.
