From Melville House’s ‘Art of the Novella’ series comes one of the most important pieces of Russian literature, for reals! Pushkin does it best (and in 1830 no less), inventing the character of Ivan Belkin, who Pushkin is a kind of ghost writer for. The five linked stories show the brilliance of one of the finest Russian poets, even naming the esteemed Russian literary award ‘The Belkin Prize’ after Pushkin’s character. Whew! All that for such a slim volume. *There is a slight coffee stain on the cover, possibly very fitting. This copy found in Berlin.
