I can't think of anyone (offhand) who writes like Sebald. It's like reading someone's dream, taking notes on ephemeral occurance, and here Sebald dives straight into what destruction really looks like, and Germany's 'disquieting refusal to face facts' regarding the hell of WWII. The story can be read at any time, inserting any country, Sebald's work is timeless and super sharp. Like new copy.
